This family owned winery and restaurant are everything that makes coming to Puglia different from the other parts of Italy. The proud owners are very friendly and engaging. They were very interested in us wanting to know where we came from, what kind of food we eat, and what we knew about the region so far. They did a great job with sharing the local food and wine with us! Clearly you could tell they have a very natural passion for what they are doing. We walked into a table of fresh cut Cocomero which is like a cross between a cucumber and a melon. It was the first time I had it and it was very refreshing! They also had different local bruschettas, these fried bread crumb ‘meatless’ balls, and cookies all local to the region. We also had a variety of fresh breads prepared for us to sample! They have a very respectable wine cellar. We were able to sample many amazing and inexpensive wines. We could not believe how high end the wine tasted for the price! The owner explained that he carries on the tradition of his grandfather, who never wanted his wines to be expensive or commercialized. The owner is also a Chemist by day so he is very exact and precise with his wines. You won’t be getting any additives or sulfates in these wines.
I really enjoyed the tasting experience he took us through. Of using our 5 senses to observe the wine. I really connected with what they were saying even though most of it was in italian– the passion knows no language. It’s very clear that they put their heart and soul into everything prepare and do for folks.
