We love the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo!

We love spending a week of October in Gulf Shores, Alabama! One of our favorite things to do there is to go to their Alabama Gulf Coast zoo!

What I really love about this zoo is that the animals always seem to be out and interactive or just active! The tigers are always out and doing something, the lemurs are entertaining, even the tortoises will be up and moving! They have baby kangaroos and will continually only house the baby/kid sized ones until they build a bigger space for them.

They recently moved to a new property farther out of the flood zone! It is absolutely stunning! Everything is open and nicely organized so you can walk around with ease and see a lot of animals. Not everything was set up when we went because covid-19 but we were able to take a ride in their old town cars that ride around the camel exhibit. The camel was making some funny faces at us too so it was really enjoyable for us and the kids!

The animal encounters here are a great bang for your buck. Usually they will have baby kangaroos, sloths, lemurs, and more! I highly recommend doing these! So much fun!

The safari restaurant is a must-go for sure! Please do not pass this place by! It is SO cool inside! You feel like you are in an Australian outback! There’s something on the menu for everyone and my kids fully enjoyed their experience there as well!

Fun Fact: they are the only zoo to evacuate all of their animals due to a hurricane!

The donkey’s name is Angie! Say HI to her for me!

They have a petting zoo for toddlers and you can purchase food and feed them!

Buy the tickets for the animal encounters beforehand at the gift shop. You can get refunds for them if you don’t end up doing them. We love the lemur and sloth encounters!

Highly recommend the Safari restaurant.

Bottom Line: Plan on spending most of the day here. The earlier you get there the more active the animals will usually be. Make sure to read the story about Chuckie their American Alligator– it’s a story you’ll never forget.

Make sure to take note of the new address!
